In year 6 we've been very busy finding our voices.

In literacy we've been reading poems and finding out about the poets feelings and thoughts.

So we've decided to give it a go.

Don't cut the trees,

so we can breathe.

we can save the environment.

to save endangered animals.

recycle paper.

protect and look after them.

OR WE ALL ARE DEAD!

Children playing and laughing
Then suddenly …

No children playing or laughing
Instead people crying and calling for help.

All I can see is…

Police cars, men with guns,
Fires blazing and people robbing.

Looking out my window
Birmingham has turned into
a horrible unwanted city
to live in.

But still nobody is booing

Some people are lazy

Pandemonium Pollution

People we need you to see,

How our earth’s future is going to be.
All our wasteful needs and greed,
Is stopping our animals to breathe,
We don’t realise it,
But we are to blame!
For damaging our earths wonderful name,
If we don’t STOP it will be too late,
We would have left our earth in a terrible state ,
The chemicals we throw in the air,
And we act like we don’t even care,
Our waste of food is shocking,
Our food in the bin is rotting,
The carbon dioxide just floats about,
Just then our earth starts to shout,
In the future I worry,
Our plants and animals are going to scurry,
Its never too late to start on a clean slate,
Come on mankind we can negotiate,
In a way we all appreciate,
If we come together and unite,
We can win and have a friendly fight,

The Earth Our Home

We consuming beings need to realize,

That our planet is dying before our very eyes.
Our planet is being polluted,
And warnings we are given are being muted.

We need to stop our harmful ways,
And think about how we appraise,
The earth our home which we pollute,
But now we need to know the truth.

We need to see our home is being abused,
And we need to stop before we lose,
Everything that nature produces,
We destroy and make excuses.

We need to take a final chance,
To save our planet in advance.
We need to treat the earth truly kind,
After all it is yours and mine.

Peace on Earth

We consumers do not care about our needy world,
And yes I mean the one with trees that gives us oxygen.
And why do we destroy the Earth when all it did was twirled
Instead of saving animals we care about our fashion.

Committing deforestation just to hunt for gold.
We don’t even care about horrid global warming
We still don’t care that winter wasn’t cold
With illegal poaching we don` t find that appalling.

All Out Christmas Drama....

Well....after several hours, slaving away over a hot laptop (?!)
I am very proud to present the 12 Pains of Christmas

In literacy we looked at parody poems. We discussed other types of parodies we'd come across - we knew lots of song and limericks.

And in the season of good will...we decided to turn an old classic on its head.

The 12 pains of Christmas is all about the things that make people mad during the Christmas period, things like shopping, naughty children and fairy lights that don't work!

A Merry "make-do and mend" Christmas

This week we've found our Wartime Christmas Spirit!

On monday we spent the afternoon recycling things from around the classroom!

People during the war still had christmas trees and decorations. Many people had their christmas decorations from before the war. The problems started when people's christmas things needed replacing when they became old or broken.

We thought about this, surely they could just go to the shops and buy new things? But the children remembered that things were rationed during the war and some items could be difficult to get hold of. Rojay carried on thinking...He mentioned the factories. "the factories wouldn't be making christmas decorations, they'd be too busy with the war effort"

This sparked a very long discussion about the factories during the war...

"They'd be making guns"

"Yeah and planes"

"The canaries would be busy making the ammunition!"

So...in true war time fashion, with carols playing...children singing we went about decorating our classroom!

Celebrating Interfaith Week

This afternoon we joined with the rest of the school to share our Interfaith week activities.

We proudly presented our display, we worked hard to create a colourful and interesting piece to share with the school.

Straight after the assembly our work was rushed back to the classroom, it is now displayed along with Lift-the-flap Information finders...Come and check them out!

Happy 1st of December!

We're going on a bear hunt...

Well...ok, not really! . . . BUT a bear hunt is a type of quest!

In literacy today we had a look at online adventure quests, we especially liked the Viking quest as it allowed us to make our own choices which had an impact on the outcome of the story.

Miss Willis' Group scored 633points from the quest to Lindisfarne, I'm informed Mr Logue's group did considerably better!

Our trip to the Islamic Exhibition Centre.

A Brilliant morning was had by all!

Year 6 thouroughly enjoyed the time they spent learning about Islam this morning. We started our trip with a session about the 5 Pillars of Islam...
The first EVER 6W challenge -  the first member of 6W to post a comment with the 5 pillars of Islam in the correct order wins housepoints!

We moved onto a session looking at the prophets - Did you know...124,000 Prophets are said to have spread the word of Allah to every generation of every country!

We saw some models of important Mosques, we really liked the model of Mecca- the aerial photos we saw showed us just how big it really is!

Without a doubt, the best part of our trip was the session where we got to try on different items of clothes!

Interfaith Week

It's only the first day and it has been as busy one...

We started the day taste testing African food, but we've got lots to tell you about that so we'll save it for another blog.

This afternoon we joined Martin and we learnt how to play African Drums.
We learnt the basics; how to make 3 different sounds with the drums!
We used call and response to communicate with one another and tried our hands at some rhythms.
