Meet the Royals...

In our topic we have been looking at Britain since the 1930's.

Today we have been learning about the royal family tree, During the war this Man was the King...

King George VI

The lady next to him is Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, later on she was also known as the Queen Mother.

Their eldest daughter is Queen Elizabeth II.

During the war the King and Queen stayed in Britain, they were not evacuated to safety. They stayed in London, and when the Palace was bombed by the Germans, the king was inside. Fortunately he did not get hurt.

"We think the King was a good man, he stayed here instead of being evacuated out of the city. He was brave and loyal to the people of the UK" Joe, Aleilah and McLean

Our Queen Elizabeth worked for the Army during the war, doing her part for our country.

"During the 1st world war the Royal family name was changed to Windsor,  as their name 'Saxe-Coburg-Gotha' held too many German connections. And as we were at war with the Germans, the King at the time decided it was best to change their name."Dan E, Dan H and Cara

We're really enjoying our topic work, some of us even have a few items to share from the war.

Medals from a Grandad who served in the Army during the War . . .

A kind neighbour shared her ration books with us . . .

And Remember . . .

"Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag, and Smile, Smile, Smile!"

I really enjoy history with miss Willis, it is absloutely fun and makes us want to earn so much more.

Year 6 is a very difficult year for us but with miss Willis, mrs Savva and don't forget Mr logue I'm am certain that we will succeed in things that we try our hardest with. Me and numerous other class members are extremely proud of our scores in our practice SATs and we will keep up the superb work.

I'm looking forward to this year so much especially with our fabulously outstanding teachers always here to support us! By Zainub.

Phew, biography on Galileo Galilei is completed and in school and now I get to relax and check out the blog and website. I am starting to like homework because it is more challenging in year 6.
Topic is one of my favourite lessons because it is linked with literacy.

Bye for know....Zainub.
