Year of faith

Sorry about the delay...
This question should have been posted right after school...And I did! I posted it, but we all know how our class computer likes to make Miss Willis cross! Grrrrr!

Anyway, your challenge -

In the year of faith, the Archbishop of Birmingham has asked us to celebrate under whose patronage?

What can you tell our blogging community about this person?

Gas Masks!

This afternoon we used an old blog entry.
In that blog entry there were the instructions on how to make our very own gas masks! We had to pay careful attention to what we'd been asked to do, one wrong move and our gas masks would be useless in an emergency!

Here we are in our finished masks.

I wonder when the next air raid will be?!

This afternoon was fun, we especially enjoyed listening and singing along to war time classics as we worked!

It's a long, long way to Tipperary, but my hearts right there!

Ravenclaw are the winners

Table Champions for Autumn 1

Congratualtions!
Who will it be next half term?!

IT'S TURNING!

Apparently, if you spin a lolly pop it turns....Who'd have thought it!

I think they might be a little tired in year 6. All the hard work has melted their brains!

Have a safe and happy half term!

The first awards ceremony...

Today marks the first Table trophy awards ceremony.

Every week the children in 6W have been working hard as table to win the most gems each week.

Currently our table trophy is covered in ribbons, 1 ribbon for each week that a table has won....

So, at 1:45 (ish) today we will count up our gems for the very last time...and the house with the most ribbons on our trophy will be crowned Table Champions for Autumn 1!

Table Champions,
Yummmmm!

Harvest Time

Harvest time, it's harvest time. Summers turning to harvest time.
Harvest time, it's harvest time. The best time of the year!

We've been collecting food for those less fortunate, using our Wednesday word "greatness" we helped gather up food to donate to our community....

And in the words of 6W...It's never too late to help!

Online biographies.

Today we looked at a variety of online biographies to research different famous people.

We decided the most interesting, and easiest to use was this website:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/famouspeople/

It  had games, fun facts, links to other sites, videos, sounds, pictures and everything was broken down into smaller chunks.

Check it out, but don't forget to leave us a comment telling us what you found out about a famous person from history!

War time gardeners...

Our Anderson shelters are nearly ready, so we started to think about the gardens.

They aren't quite finished but we think they look pretty good - come back soon to see our shelters in these gardens!

Perfectly neat...

We haven't yet decided on names, but our crocodile rulers are having an amazing impact on our work!

Take a look...

We are very proud of the improvements we've been making!

Working on our presentation....with Crocodiles?!

So in Miss Willis' groups we've decided we want to make our presentation perfect.
With the help of these crocodile rulers we hope to do just that....

So, it's time to name them...
Leave a comment with your name suggestion and we'll vote for the 6 best!

Prizes for the winning names will be given!

A very interesting question....

Right 6W this is your first blogging challenge!

Brendan posed a very interesting question today, he asked:

"During the bombings, did the German people have things like Anderson shelters?"

Your mission should you choose to accept it:

Find out if the people in Germany had anything to protect them during bombings, did they need anything to protect them?

Leave a comment with your answers!

Air Raid!

Today whilst sitting quietly checking out some new spellings an air raid siren suddenly went off!

Our only problem is it's 2012 and we don't have an air raid shelter!
We crawled under our desks and waited for the all clear siren.

We heard bombs, planes and fire. We think we counted 18 bombs being dropped in total. Some were louder than others. It was all pretty scary.

After gathering our thoughts we listened to some stories from people who survived the Blitz. We heard the story of a Lady who was in her house as a bomb landed on the roof, and about a small boy who saw 2 bombs drop near his house.

Take a listen:
Bomb raid montage of sounds:

The Boys bomb experience:

And the lady who survived a bomb landing on her house:

We decided it was the time to build our own shelters....even if they are slightly miniature!

Come back soon to see our finished Anderson Shelters hidden in our model gardens!

PHHHEEEEW!!!! All Clear....
